Are Businesses Located at Co-Working Spaces Eligible for Google Business Profiles?

Businesses in co-working spaces may be eligible for a Google Business Profile if they meet the following guidelines:

  • You should have permanent signage at the location.
  • You should have a unique phone number directly answered by your staff and not by the co-working building’s answering service.
  • You should have staff in place at the location during stated business hours.

If you fall short of any of these table stakes, it’s likely that you will be unable to verify your listing. You may be better off listing your business at your home address and following the advice given above for home-based businesses.

One other nuance of the co-working scenario that you should know about is the risk of filtering inherent in operating at an address occupied by competitors who share your same Google business categories. For example, if you and the person across the aisle from you are both running bookkeeping services, you may find your business filtered out at the automatic zoom level of Google Maps due to being in too close proximity to another company with the same categories. You will then be in the challenging scenario of having to up your SEO and marketing game to convince Google that it is your business that deserves to be shown to the public at the automatic zoom level of Maps while your competitor is filtered out.
